Make-Safe and Permanent Storm Repairs
Storm Damage Roof Repair in Liverpool
Roofer & Builder repairs roofs damaged by high winds, heavy rain and falling debris across Liverpool, Merseyside, Wirral and the wider North West, from slipped tiles and loose ridges to lifted flashings and damaged chimneys. Where it is safe to work, we make the roof safe first to limit water getting in, then return to carry out a permanent repair.
Photographs and a written quote can be provided to support an insurance claim. Our emergency line is open 24/7, so if water is coming in now, call 0151 739 0669 or see our emergency roofing service.
Make-Safe First, Then a Permanent Repair
After a storm, the priority is to stop further damage to the inside of your home. Where it is safe to get onto the roof, we carry out temporary make-safe work, such as securing loose tiles and ridges, removing pieces at risk of falling, or covering exposed areas to keep the rain out.
Some work cannot be done safely while high winds or heavy rain continue. Working at height has to be planned with suitable access, and on some roofs that means waiting for conditions to ease or for scaffolding to go up. We will be clear about what can be done straight away and what has to wait.
Once the roof is safe, we inspect the damage properly and give you a written quotation for the permanent repair. If the storm has exposed wider problems, such as perished felt or weak fixings, we will tell you, as these can affect both the repair and any claim.
What to Do Straight After Storm Damage
- Stay safe – keep clear of the ground below a damaged roof or chimney, and stay off ladders in high winds.
- Limit damage indoors – move belongings, catch drips and, if water is near electrics, switch off that circuit if it is safe to do so.
- Take photographs – record the damage outside and inside.
- Contact your insurer – report the damage early and check what your policy requires.
- Arrange a make-safe – call a roofer to secure the roof.
Our article on what to do if your roof tiles are damaged by storms covers each step.
Storm Damage Repairs
Common Storm Damage We Repair
Slipped and Missing Tiles
Strong gusts can lift tiles and slates, especially where nails have corroded or clips were never fitted. We replace missing pieces, refix loose ones and check the fixings around them so the repair holds in the next storm.
Ridge and Hip Damage
Ridge and hip tiles held only by old mortar are among the first things to move in high winds. We rebed or replace them and fix them mechanically in line with BS 5534, using a dry or mortar-bedded system.
Verge and Eaves Damage
The edges of a roof take the brunt of the wind. We repair loose verge mortar, lifted dry verge units, damaged undercloaks and storm-damaged fascias and soffits, so the edges of the roof are secure and weathertight again.
Lifted Flashings
Wind can lift lead flashings at chimneys and walls, and rain then runs straight behind them into the property. We refix, redress or renew the lead and repoint the joint so the junction is properly weathertight again.
Chimney Damage
Loose pots, cracked flaunching and damaged cowls can become a real danger in high winds. We make the chimney safe first, then carry out the masonry, pointing and flaunching repairs needed to put the stack right.
Fallen Debris and Flat Roofs
Branches and windblown debris can crack tiles, puncture flat roof coverings and pull gutters loose. We clear what is safe to remove, repair the damaged covering and check underneath for hidden damage to the deck or timbers.
How It Works
How We Handle Storm Damage
Assess the Risk
We find out what has happened and whether anything could fall or let water in, so the most urgent problem is dealt with first.
Make the Roof Safe
Where conditions and access allow, we carry out temporary work to secure loose materials and keep rain out until the permanent repair.
Inspect and Record
Once it is safe, we inspect the damage, take photographs and provide a written quotation that you can share with your insurer.
Complete the Repair
We carry out the permanent repair, matching the existing roof as closely as possible, then clear away debris and leave the site tidy.

I had an issue with my flashing so had six roofers out to quote... John was the only one of the six who seemed genuine and trustworthy. This turned out to be the case... he did the work for a fair price, gave a proper invoice with breakdown of work, communicated well and left it all tidy. One of the firms who quoted said we needed a new roof (we didn't). It's so important to get several quotes and trust your gut. Thank you!Posted on Google![]()

Roofer and Builder have just completed gutter and rain pipe replacement around our whole house. They were a delight to deal with - friendly, helpful and very efficient. The work was done by a team of five in a single day and was to a high standard. They cleaned up carefully on completing the work. Maybe not the cheapest but probably the best.Posted on Google![]()

I cannot recommend John and his team enough. I had water leaking through my ceiling after a storm (3 days before Christmas!). John and his team were able to attend the same day. John was very knowledgable, assessed and explained the damage with photographs, and gave me repair options on other problems that were found. The team completed all the work the same day and really went above and beyond to do a great job rather than just a patch up. They've saved me a lot of stress and were pleasant and professional to deal with throughout. I will be contacting John again for future work.Posted on Google![]()

We had a problem that had been going on for years with various people trying to repair it and failing. Last December John came and repaired the roof. The materials used were 1st class, I have photos of every stage of the operation and after rain of biblical proportions I can now safely say that the roof is sound and my house is drying out. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anybody. Thank you
FAQs
Storm Damage Repairs FAQs
Will my home insurance cover storm damage to my roof?
It depends on your policy and the cause. Many policies cover sudden storm damage but exclude wear and tear and gradual deterioration. Report the damage promptly and keep photographs. We can supply photos, a written description and a quote to support a claim, but the decision rests with your insurer.
Can you repair my roof while the storm is still blowing?
Not usually. Working at height in high winds is not safe for roofers or for anyone below. Limited make-safe work may be possible in a break in the weather, with the permanent repair completed once conditions allow. In the meantime, moving belongings and catching drips indoors helps to limit the damage.
Should I go up a ladder to check the damage myself?
No. Ladders are dangerous in wind and rain, and a damaged roof may have loose tiles or chimney pots that could fall. Look from the ground at a safe distance or from a window, and photograph what you can see. If it is safe, check the loft for drips or wet insulation.
Why has only part of my roof been damaged?
Wind finds weak points. Ridges, verges and roof edges are the most exposed, and tiles with corroded nails or failed mortar move first. Damage in one area can mean other parts are weak too, so we check the wider roof. Our ridge tile repairs page explains why ridges are so often affected.
What should I do if a chimney has been damaged?
Keep people away from the area below, as loose pots, bricks and flaunching can fall without warning, and do not try to reach the chimney yourself. Call our emergency line so it can be made safe, and photograph the damage from a safe distance for your insurer.
How can I reduce the risk of storm damage in future?
Loose ridges, slipped tiles and lifted flashings are far easier to fix before a storm than after one, and clear gutters help water drain in heavy rain. Our storm-proofing checklist covers what to look for, and a roof inspection before winter can pick up weaknesses early.
