Roofers in Halewood
Roofer & Builder provides roofing and building services in Halewood, on the south-eastern edge of Liverpool in the borough of Knowsley. We repair and replace pitched roofs, flat roofs on garages and extensions, fascias, soffits and gutters for homeowners, landlords and businesses across the town.
Much of Halewood’s housing was built in the same few decades, which means many roofs are now reaching the same stage of life at once. Our family-run team has been roofing for more than 20 years, and our approach is simple: inspect properly, explain what we find, give a clear written quotation and only recommend a new roof when a repair genuinely will not do the job.
From Lancashire Village to Liverpool Overspill
Halewood was a farming township for centuries. Its old village centre lies around Church Road, where St Nicholas’ Church was built in 1839. That changed after Liverpool Corporation bought land here in 1930. From the mid-1950s onwards, large housing estates were built to rehouse families from the city, and by the 1970s the population had grown many times over. The Ford factory, which opened in 1963 and is now home to Jaguar Land Rover, brought further growth.
The result is a town where much of the housing dates from the 1950s to the 1970s, alongside a handful of older buildings in the village and a substantial new-build area on the eastern side.
Re-Roofing Homes Built From the 1950s to the 1970s
Many of these houses were built with concrete tiles over a bitumen felt underlay, with mortar-bedded ridges and verges. After decades of weather, the tiles may still look acceptable from the street while the felt underneath has become brittle or torn, the battens have softened and the mortar has cracked. Our guide to roof felt failure under tiles explains the signs.
Where a replacement is the better option, the new roof goes on over breathable membrane and new battens, with ridge tiles mechanically fixed as BS 5534 requires. Replacing more than a quarter of the roof covering also brings insulation requirements under Building Regulations. Our roof replacement page explains what is involved.
Garages, Porches and Flat-Roof Extensions
Flat roofs are common in Halewood: on garages, porch canopies, kitchen extensions and some dormers. Older felt coverings tend to blister, split at the edges and hold water. Depending on the structure underneath, we may recommend a repair, a new felt system, or a replacement in GRP fibreglass or EPDM rubber. See our flat roof services for the options.
Some buildings put up before 2000 used asbestos cement in garage roofs, soffits or flues. If there is any doubt about a material, it should be tested by a specialist before anyone disturbs it.
New Homes in East Halewood
New homes like those on the estates to the east of Halewood usually have dry ridge and verge systems, uPVC fascias and soffits, and ventilation built into the roof. If your home is still covered by a new-build warranty, contact the developer or warranty provider first about any defect. For later problems, storm damage or improvements such as roof windows, we can inspect and quote in the usual way.
Emergency Help in Halewood
For active leaks, missing tiles or storm damage, ring our 24/7 emergency line. Flat roofs on garages and extensions often start leaking during long spells of heavy rain rather than in high wind. A temporary covering can protect the room below until the roof can be properly repaired, which for coverings such as GRP needs dry weather and suitable temperatures. Where it is safe to do so, we make the roof safe first and then return for the permanent work.

I had an issue with my flashing so had six roofers out to quote... John was the only one of the six who seemed genuine and trustworthy. This turned out to be the case... he did the work for a fair price, gave a proper invoice with breakdown of work, communicated well and left it all tidy. One of the firms who quoted said we needed a new roof (we didn't). It's so important to get several quotes and trust your gut. Thank you!Posted on Google![]()

Roofer and Builder have just completed gutter and rain pipe replacement around our whole house. They were a delight to deal with - friendly, helpful and very efficient. The work was done by a team of five in a single day and was to a high standard. They cleaned up carefully on completing the work. Maybe not the cheapest but probably the best.Posted on Google![]()

I cannot recommend John and his team enough. I had water leaking through my ceiling after a storm (3 days before Christmas!). John and his team were able to attend the same day. John was very knowledgable, assessed and explained the damage with photographs, and gave me repair options on other problems that were found. The team completed all the work the same day and really went above and beyond to do a great job rather than just a patch up. They've saved me a lot of stress and were pleasant and professional to deal with throughout. I will be contacting John again for future work.Posted on Google![]()

We had a problem that had been going on for years with various people trying to repair it and failing. Last December John came and repaired the roof. The materials used were 1st class, I have photos of every stage of the operation and after rain of biblical proportions I can now safely say that the roof is sound and my house is drying out. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anybody. Thank you
FAQs
Roofing Questions from Halewood
My Halewood house still has its original roof. Does it need replacing?
Not necessarily. Age alone is not the deciding factor. We check the tiles, underlay, battens and ridges, and if the problems are limited to one area, a repair may be the sensible choice. If the underlay has failed across the roof, replacement usually gives better long-term value.
Should I repair or replace a leaking garage flat roof?
If the deck is sound and the damage is localised, a repair can work well. If the boards are soft or the covering has failed in several places, a new roof is normally more economical. Our blog on garage flat roof leaks covers the options.
My new-build home in Halewood has a roof problem. Can you help?
Check your new-build warranty first, as the developer may be responsible for defects. If the warranty does not apply, or the issue is storm damage or an improvement, we are happy to inspect and provide a written quotation.
Do you carry out commercial roofing in Halewood?
Yes. As well as homes, we work on commercial premises, including flat and pitched roofs on business units, shops and offices around Halewood and neighbouring Speke.
